Diagnostic and Operative Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy
- Diagnostic and operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy are minimally invasive surgical procedures used in the field of gynaecology. Laparoscopy involves the use of a small camera, called a laparoscope, which is inserted through a small incision in the abdomen to examine the pelvic organs, such as the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. Hysteroscopy, on the other hand, involves the use of a thin, lighted instrument called a hysteroscopy, which is inserted through the cervix to examine the inside of the uterus. These procedures are commonly used for the diagnosis and treatment of various gynaecological conditions, including infertility, pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, and the removal of uterine fibroids or polyps. Both laparoscopy and hysteroscopy are considered minimally invasive, with shorter recovery times and fewer complications compared to traditional open surgical procedures.
