I.C.S.I (Intra Cyto plasmic sperm injection)
- This technique is the greatest boon to male factor infertility which does not respond to conventional management. With this technique, men with severe oligo or Astheno spermia can still have their own child, without taking resort to a semen bank.
- As with I. V. F., the wife's oocytes are aspirated. On a special microscope with the micro-manipulator, a single sperm is picked up in a fine micro needle & injected manually into the oocyte. Embryo's are transferred after 48-72 hours. The couple can expect 50-60% chance of conception per cycle.
- For azoospermic men with an obstructive pathology (eg. congenital absence of vas deference), sperms can be aspirated directly from the Epididymis (PESA) & used for ICSI. In addition, for azoospermic men with a non-obstructive pathology, sperms can be retrieved directly from the testies (TESA) & used for ICSI Miraculously, PESA or TESA & ICSI gives the same results as with ejaculated sperm (30-40%) per cycle.
