Semen washing & Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI)
- It is carried out either by using Husband's semen (A.I.H.) or donor semen (AID).
- The I.U.I. Lab. is managed by experts, who are well versed with the semen processing procedures like semen wash, swim-up, swim- down & density gradient separation (single or double layer). These procedures remove the seminal plasma containing Prostaglandins as well as debris, dead sperms,
- immobile sperms, pus cells & Epithelial cells from the semen. This improves the chances of fertilization.
- The wife is given medications to produce large number of mature eggs, as compared to her natural cycle, where she produces only one egg.
- The processed semen is transferred into the uterus (womb) with the help of a fine catheter, thereby bringing the sperm & eggs in close proximity in the female genital tract, hence increasing the probability of conception.
- Conception rate by this method is 15% to 20% per cycle. 3-6 cycles are advocated before proceeding to higher ART forms.
